EVENT RECAP: RIBBON CUTTING AT DAVE’S HOT CHICKEN

The ribbon cutting was so hot in the morning sun, that the balloons on the arch popped throughout the event! Ed said, “that is the mist of the hot spices and not the sun.” Ed introduced national sports celebrity Kris Humphries and his brother (operations) Alex Humphries. Kris and his family are opening 18 locations in Minnesota with this being the 3rd as one just opened in Highland Park in St. Paul and the other in Minnetonka.

Kris Humphries brought Hopkins their first state basketball championship in 50 years, played for UM and was drafted 14th in the 2004 NBA draft by Utah and played 18 years in the NBA.  Ed asked Kris during the ceremony, “Kris, you played years for both Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks. Which are you pulling for in tonight’s game 4 of the NBA Finals of Celtics and Mavericks?”  Kris told the crowd, “with the finals 3-0, it is over so I cannot commit.”  After Ed’s comments representing the business community, Mayor Clint Hooppaw welcomed them officially on behalf of the City. He also noted the amazing street art and murals both inside and outside the building which each location has an artist in from LA to custom paint each location.

After the ribbon cutting, Chamber members were given a complimentary lunch, with some brave enough to try their “reaper” spice level which comes with a disclaimer that you have to sign. Dave’s Hot Chicken began in Pasadena, CA in 2017 and today they have over 100 locations. Other celebrity owners and investors in franchises include Drake, Samuel L. Jackson, Maria Shriver and Michael Strahan.
