Recently, Congresswoman Angie Craig made a visit to Northern Safety Technology in Apple Valley to learn more first-hand about the full outfitting of emergency vehicles. Chamber President Ed Kearney upon learning of the visit as Northern Safety Technology (who is a longtime Chamber member) joined Apple Valley Police Chief Nick Francis and Lakeville Police Commander Bill Gerl in welcoming and thanking Congresswoman Craig for her interest in safety. Northern Safety Technology owners by Mike and Denise Dow were so proud of their small business that assists in saving so many lives. They are the premier emergency vehicle lighting and accessories distributor and installer for police, fire and ambulance vehicles for municipalities, utilities and public safety offices in the Upper Midwest multi-state region.

The Congresswoman explored the entire operation for well over an hour and was reminded of her own father’s emergency service job as she spoke in great detail to both Mike Dow and his lead installers and she knew a great deal. What was amazing is how the full vehicles (gas and/or EV) are stripped down from the factory and completely rewired with onboard lighting on all sides and sophisticated computer systems and communications systems. We were really amazed that the lights of police vehicles even from different departments can automatically synchronize their flashing lights to make it safer and less blinding to passing traffic and be brighter in daylight and tone down in darkness. The demonstration was “enlightening.” We all thank Congresswoman Craig for her interest in small businesses in Apple Valley and specifically this important one enhancing public safety.
