The Chambers of Commerce in Congressional District 2 are proud to announce the successful conclusion of a televised debate between candidates Angie Craig and Joe Teirab, held on Monday, October 7, at the Lakeville Area Arts Center. The Chambers who co-hosted this event are Apple Valley, Burnsville, Cottage Grove, Dakota County Regional, Elko New Market, Hastings, Lakeville, Lonsdale, Montgomery, New Prague, Northfield, Prior Lake, River Heights, Savage, and Shakopee.
The debate, believed to be the only televised debate that will be held between the two major party candidates, focused on issues facing our small business owners, their employees, and their families. The debate was moderated by two of the Chamber Presidents in the district – Jon Althoff from the Dakota County Regional Chamber and Krista Jech, from the Lakeville Chamber.
“Today’s debate illustrates the importance of open dialogue in addressing issues facing our small business community – including taxes, inflation, infrastructure, safety, technology, agriculture support, and workforce,” said co-moderator, Krista Jech. “Chambers of Commerce are committed to providing a platform for thought leaders to share their insights and challenge each other in a respectful manner,” added co-moderator, Jon Althoff.
The event was live-streamed by Town Square Television and the live audience consisted of Chamber members throughout the district, as well as college students from Dakota County Technical College and Inver Hills Community College.
The debate not only highlighted critical issues in the district, but also reinforced the Chambers’ mission to be advocates for the local business community, promote civic engagement and provide for informed decisions. As part of this ongoing commitment, many local Chambers host candidate forums and informational events for their city, regional, and school board races as well.
