UPONOR FLYING NEW FLAG, HAS NEW OWNER
Uponor, Apple Valley’s largest industrial employer and twice former Minnesota Manufacturer of the Year and 2x Apple Valley Chamber Business of the Year (2017 & 2006) HAS A NEW OWNER.
GEORG FISCHER OF SWITZERLAND on Nov. 13th purchased UPONOR of FINLAND. Together they will be the top producer in the world of sustainable water solutions. As seen in the photo below, the former Finland white background flag with a blue cross has been replaced in Apple Valley with a new Swiss Red Background with a white cross, the Swiss flag since 1339.
IN APPLE VALLEY, Andres Caballero who has been President of Uponor North America in Apple Valley is now listed as President Uponor Building Solutions North America and continues to be on the Executive Committee of GF Uponor in Switzerland.
We knew about the proposed merger in early Fall but Chamber President Ed Kearney noted, “A number of years ago, a former President of Uponor mentioned to me that any news about Uponor in the world reaches the Helsinki Finland Headquarters daily. As such, you must be very careful what and when you say things because Uponor is on the Helsinki Stock Exchange and one must be careful not to imply any insider information.” So we waited until now to tell you and we hope you appreciate our caution.
GEORG FISCHER started 202 years ago (1802) and last had 15,200 employees, $4.1 billion euro sales with 138 companies in 38 countries. Part of UPONOR is much older as it began in 1620 in Sweden as Wirsbo making armaments for the Swedish King) and was out of Finland (Apple Valley is their North American Headquarters with warehousing in Lakeville and more manufacturing in Hutchinson MN). Uponor had 3,600 employees with $1.4 billion euro sales and was sold in 34 countries before the sale. Today they will be headquartered in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.
Georg Fischer will have 4 divisions:
GF PIPING SYSTEMS—Infrastructure & Utilities
GF UPONOR—Building technologies for sustainable safe, clean water efficiency for heating and cooling
GF MACHINING SOLUTIONS
GEORG FISCHER outbid Belgium’s ALIAXIS for the sale last June. Former Uponor President & CEO Michael Rauterkus (since Aug. 23, 2023) will be the new President of GF Uponor Division worldwide.
