AMAZON FRESH WILL NOT OPEN

Amazon Fresh Grocery stores will not open their 6 planned stores in Burnsville, Eagan, Eden Prairie, Arden Hills, Lakeville and Coon Rapids. The stores have just been completed on their exteriors for the one on our Apple Valley and Lakeville border at Cedar and 160th where formerly both Family Leisure was located as well as Kowalski’s Grocery.

The Eagan, Burnsville and Lakeville stores are all open for lease now. We spoke with the General Manager of the Lakeville store who shared with us that Amazon still has a lease on the property so if they are unable to find a sublease tenant, they are still obligated. The CFO of Amazon has stated there will be no more expansions until they find the right mix of grocery retail as the technology that was featured at Amazon Fresh is only part of the equation in such a competitive market and low margins of grocery stores.
