UPONOR HOSTS FINNISH AMBASSADOR TO U.S.
What an incredible evening reception Wednesday evening at Uponor that was shared with Apple Valley Chamber, the City, County and DEED Director who attended with his excellency MIKKO HAUTALA, Ambassador of Finland to the United States. Receiving the Ambassador and introduction and welcoming comments were by UPONOR North America’s new President ANDRES CABALLERO based here in Apple Valley. Andres comes to Uponor with over a decade of strong leadership, growth & success with Honeywell International.
Also present was a delegation with BUSINESS FINLAND and co-host GLOBAL MINNESOTA who connects Minnesota to the world through economic development efforts to attract and/or expand businesses in Minnesota.
Ambassador Hautala was formerly Ambassador from Finland to both Russia and Ukraine for years. His Ambassadorship in Moscow was from 2016-2020 thus giving him unparalleled inside perspective of the war in Ukraine which began with the Russian invasion of Crimea in 2014 and Russia’s full Ukraine invasion Feb. 24, 2022. His perspective that he shared at this VIP invitational event was insightful and sobering. He noted that with Finland now being part of NATO, Finland is now “strategically married to Western Europe and the United States.” A critical part of the success in having Finland join NATO (who shares a 830 mile border with Russia) is that the US agreed to now be Finland’s major trading partner along with Sweden. That was key. Finland and Sweden are naval powerhouses in the Baltic.
APPLE VALLEY is North American Headquarters to UPONOR, twice former MN Manufacturer of the Year known as a world leader for PEX piping, fire safety and radiant heating/cooling systems for residential and commercial buildings. (Radisson BLU at Mall of America has 4 miles of Uponor PEX and MN Zoo heated entryway sidewalks). Uponor has over 4,000 employees in 26 countries.
