Sleep in Heavenly Peace
Many of you know Carey Rice, Co-Owner of Dog Day Getaway, who is very active with our Chamber as a consistent hole sponsor at our annual golf tournament and a host of our September Business After Hours. She let us know about a really cool initiative that her and her family took on this past holiday season. They volunteered with a local charity called Sleep in Heavenly Peace, which is a non-profit that gives beds to kids that don’t have one. Carey said “My family & I volunteered with Sleep in Heavenly Peace right before the holidays in lieu of gifts and it was super eye-opening. We bought bedding & delivered beds to 4 homes & 8 kids. You often don’t realize that so many kids are in need right in your own community. You always (or me specifically anyway) feel like those problems are worse in less fortunate areas. But the need in Farmington, Lakeville, Apple Valley, etc is massive and they can’t even keep up. So I thought I would just try to use whatever avenues I have to get this charity and the need a little awareness. We are going to have the Chapter President come and speak at our After Hours in September as well.”
ABOUT SLEEP IN HEAVENLY PEACE
An apple a day keeps the doctor away… so does a good night’s sleep. Did you know there are thousands of kids in the south metro area (including Apple Valley) that don’t have a bed to sleep in at night? The good news is that there is a non-profit called Sleep In Heavenly Peace (SHP) that is in their 4th year of working to make their mission a true statement, “No Kid Sleeps On The Floor In Our Town!”. They’re hosting 4 bunk bed build days in 2020 and with the help of the community will build and deliver 400 beds in the south metro to kids sleeping on the floor or in a tough situation. Jump in, bring family and friends, have fun, get dusty, build beds and make a difference for kids in our community.
